Swarovski
crystal beads contain LEAD.
We checked and double checked with our crystal supplier, experts
in the field of beads and crystals since 1972, and they provided
the following information: "leaded glass beads such as Swarovski
crystals are not considered to be harmful. How is that possible?
Unlike base metal alloys that contain lead (Pb), which are mixed
with other elements but not chemically combined, the lead oxide
used in leaded glass production is a lead compound (PbO). Lead oxide
therefore does not react with the body in the same way as metallic
lead (Pb) might. Why doesn't lead oxide (PbO) react with the human
body the same way metallic lead (Pb) reacts? Think about hydrogen
- it's explosive, highly combustible! You don't want to light a
match anywhere near it. But when you combine hydrogen with oxygen,
you get a chemical compound, H2O - good old-fashioned water, which
isn't combustible at all. You can drop all the matches you want
in it, and it won't explode. "
Also note, Sterling silver is lead free, because by definition,
it is composed of metals other than lead.
Sterling silver = 92.5% silver, 7.5% copper
ASA SAFETY PRECAUTION--Do not allow children to place jewelry items
in or near their mouths. Handle all crystal jewelry with care and
inspect for chips or breakage before each wearing. Broken crystals
may cause cuts, scratches or other injury. Small jewelry items and
loose crystals that are small enough to be swallowed may represent
a choking hazard to children and pets. DreamPearls are not intended
for children or persons incapable of handling items in a safe manner.
